A group in Ammanford is offering free clothes to children across the town and further afield, as families struggle to afford clothing during the current cost-of-living crisis.
The Ammanford Christadelphians are setting up a new project, which will see them handing out free clothes to any child under the age of 16, to financially support parents and families as costs continue to rise.
Currently, the volunteers at the project are collecting donations, as well as washing and preparing them for this week’s opening of the project.
The project is to open at the Christadelphian Hall at 10am to 5pm on Friday, October 28, as it will remain open each Friday following.
A spokesperson from the Ammanford Christadelphians said: “As a church community, we have lots of charitable projects on all year round, but this is the first one which benefits the people right on our doorstep, the people in the community we share.
“We have got a large donation box outside the church hall, so members of the public are leaving bags of clothes.
“We have also set up the downstairs of the church as a shop, so that families who are struggling can come in and choose free clothes.
“Let’s be honest, kids aren’t in their clothes for two minutes before they’ve grown out of it.”

Organisations across Ammanford have also got involved in the project, including multiple local schools.
Tabitha continued: “Several schools have been very kind to donate second-hand uniforms.
“This will help families massively who are struggling to buy school uniforms for their children.
“What we’re trying to do is be a central hub for the community, for families and for schools. We are also able to meet with people or drop off clothes to anyone looking for anything specific who cannot get to us on a Friday.”
The group has six volunteers who have organised the project and got it up and running, including Tabitha and her sister, as well as around 30 people who will be running the hall on a Friday, handing out the donated clothes.
