AMMANFORD guiding group is looking to try and raise the funds to get their groups back together.

The Guides runs four groups for children and young people but have been separated recently due to the building they used to use being condemned.

Kay Augustus of Ammanford Guides said that the building on Manor Road in Ammanford has been condemned and unusable for more than seven years. She also said: “It’s an eyesore to the local residents and its meant that all Ammanford Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers have been separated into many different halls across Ammanford.”

The group runs Rainbows for ages four-seven, Brownies for seven-10-year-olds, Guides for 10-14-year-olds and Rangers for teenagers aged 14-18.

“We feel its about time we got a new building to help create consistency for our young girls,” said Ms Augustus.

“Girlguiding has officially been a part of the Ammanford community since 1927, with our leaders seeing children whose parents also passed through the doors!”

There had previously been efforts to raise funds for the work but this fell apart and now the Girlguiding group want to kickstart it again to finally get a new place to meet.

The charity aims to empower girls through fun, friendship, challenges and adventures. “In a world of uncertainty, Girlguiding helps girls with confidence, mental health support and inclusion.

“Our girls come from various backgrounds and upbringings, some are young carers, adopted, fostered, suffer with various ailments, mental health disorders or additional learning needs, but for the few hours a week that they attend our meetings they can leave all those labels and troubles at the door and just be children again.

“For all our guides we aim to offer a safe space for them away from social media and encourage them to be the best version of themselves by helping one another and supporting their local community.”

The hope is that the group can raise enough money to get the current building demolished and a new one built in its place, allowing for the groups to be able to meet under one roof.

“Our aim is to give our girls somewhere that they can call their Girlguiding home, a consistent and safe place. We feel it’s time to bring all our units together again, under one roof!”

A crowdfunding page has been set up if anyone is able and willing to donate and can be found here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ammanford-girlguides

Ms Augustus said: “We would be grateful for any donations or gifting of support or trade services that we will need to make this project a success.”
