SWANSEA Valley were able to air their concerns about the cost-of-living crisis recently to local politicians.
Representatives from Community Dreams Ystradgynlais met with Plaid Cymru politicians to shar the concerns they and other residents have about the crisis.
Community Dreams was set up by residents who volunteer their time to help the most disadvantaged and vulnerable families in Ystradgynlais. They raise money through fundraising and sponsorships to support low-income families with necessities such as food, clothes, toiletries and even days out.
As pressures on families are set to increase in the run up to Christmas with the rising cost of food, fuel, bills and mortgages, the group has begun a Christmas hamper scheme to help families in need with the festive season.
Cefn Campbell, Plaid Cymru MS for Mid & West Wales, said: "I welcomed the opportunity to meet with Community Dreams and learn more about the stellar work they are doing in supporting vulnerable individuals and their families in the Ystradgynlais area.
"With growing inflation, soaring energy costs as well as a hike in food prices, we all know that many families are facing growing strain and uncertainty."
He praised the group for their work alongside a dig at the lack of support from the central UK Government. "Whilst the Tories continue to drag their feet at Westminster, it's heartening to see local groups such as Community Dreams take the initiative and provide support to those facing hardship.

"If any residents are in a position to support the group by helping our or by making a financial donation, I would urge them to do so."
Justin Horrell, Plaid Cymru town councillor for Abercraf ward on Ystradgynlais Town Council also praised local businesses for helping the group. He said: "More and more people are being faced with impossible choices in trying to make ends meet. Community Dreams are making a real difference to those in the Ystradgynlais area who are facing struggles through no fault of their own.
"The help being offered to the group by local small businesses also reflects the way our community is pulling together at this difficult time."
Recent data published from the 2021 census found that more than half (58.9 per cent) of households in Ystradgynlais and Tawe Uchaf area were living in deprivation – the second highest area in Powys.
