The Amman and Swansea Valleys have a number of successful actors and actresses featuring in shows and movies on both the big and small screens in 2023.
Here we take a look at where you can see some of them this year.
Gareth Jewell
Ammanford-born actor Gareth Jewell is known for his role as Dylan Ellis in Pobl y Cwm and as Aled Jenkins in seasons three through to nine of Gwaith/Cartref.
He has also appeared in Crash, The Indian Doctor, Patagonia, Merlin, Doctors, Baker Boys and Grav.
Currently, there is only one listed project for Gareth Jewell for 2023 and that is a short called The Sin-Eater. It is currently in production and he is listed to play the character Richard.
The Sin-Eater is set in 1852 and follows a Welsh mother who carries out a forbidden ritual to save the soul of her unbaptised dead baby, but is tricked into taking on a supernatural burden.
It also stars Jack Parry-Jones and Carly-Sophia Davies.
John Rhys-Davies
Ammanford-born John Rhys-Davies is widely known for his role as Sallah in Indiana Jones films Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and as Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
He has appeared in 266 movies and TV shows throughout a career spanning half a century and shows no sign of slowing down.
He is listed on IMDB as being in 13 upcoming projects, which includes reprising his role as Sallah in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, currently in pre-production and slated for a 2023 release.

He will be starring alongside Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas and Mads Mikkelsen as Indiana Jones has to pick up his hat and whip one more time to stop an old rival getting hold of another powerful artefact.
John Rhys-Davies is also set to play Raphael in Starbright, a film about a young orphan who escapes the reality of life by fantasizing about, and then entering, a fairy tale world.
No release date has been set for the production, but it is listed as being completed on IMDB.
He is featured in The Gates as Frederick Ladbroke, a film about an 1890s serial killer who is set to face the electric chair, but curses the prison and all those in it. This has been completed but no release date has been set.
He is also due to play Samuel Wilberforce in Darwin in Malibu, Dr. Weston in What You Can’t See, King Athol in Black Angel, Hanson in The Blue Mauritius, Jarred in DragonMan: The Adventures of Luke Starr and to feature in Glastonbury Isle of Light: Journey of the Grail, all of which are in pre-production.
He is among a number of stars to lend his voice to video game Squadron 42, in which he voices Randall Graves. This is currently in production.
He is also due to play Barnaby in Nameless and John Simmons in Shadow Wars and to feature in Miss Willoughby, all of which are in post-production.
Carey Mulligan
Carey Mulligan is an English-born actress who’s mother comes from Llandeilo.
She is best known for her role as Kitty in Pride and Prejudice and Daisy in The Great Gatsby among a wide range of other roles.
In 2023, she is set to star as Lenka in film Spaceman. The movie is currently in post-production and features Adam Sandler as lead Jakub.
The film follows Jakub, a Czech boy who was raised by his grandparents and overcomes adversity to become the country’s first astronaut.
She also has two further projects in post-production but these have no expected date just yet. The first of these is Saltburn, which follows an English aristocratic family, which also stars Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant.
The second is Bernstein, which she will be starring in as Felicia Montealegre opposite Bradley Cooper who plays Leonard Bernstein. The story – which was co-written and directed by Cooper – follows the couple’s complex love story.
She is also due to feature in animated movie Wildwood as the voice of Prue McKeel, the protagonist who sets off into the forest outside Portland to search for her kidnapped brother. This project is currently in production with no set date.
