A presented from Ammanford launched his new Radio 2 show – produced by a Welsh company.
Owain Wyn Evans took the reins on the Radio 2 Early Breakfast Show and is joined by Cardiff-based Bengo Media who is handling the production.
The all-Welsh affair is broadcast from the BBC Cymru Wales broadcast centre in Cardiff – the first weekday programme to be broadcast outside of the BBC’s London and Salford studios.
Owain began his broadcasting career at 18 as a children’s news presenter at BBC Wales. He then moved to become a weather presenter for Look North in Yorkshire, North West Tonight and Breakfast TV.

He has also presented a number of BBC’s local radio stations including Radio Cymru, Radio York, Radio Leeds and Radio Manchester. Owain also interviewed the likes of Little Mix, Kylie Minogue and Dolly Parton in December 2020, as part of the ‘in conversation with’ shows for BBC Sounds.
The show launched on Monday, February 13 and will be on air Monday to Friday between 4am and 6.30am.
The move to have the programme broadcast from Cardiff is part of the Broadcasters Across the UK plans announced by the BBC in 2021 to ‘better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.’
Bengo Media co-founder Steve Austins is the show’s executive producer. He said: “Radio 2 is one of the biggest radio stations in the world, with 14.29 million people tuning in every week.
“As a Wales-based company, we are delighted to produce Owain as Radio 2 brings the Early Breakfast Show to Cardiff.
“The production team were lucky enough to get some new alarm clocks for Christmas, and we can’t wait to help Owain keep the UK entertained in the early hours!”
Bengo Media was founded by Steve Austins and Marina Lois – a husband-and-wife team who have backgrounds in radio. They have produced live shows and documentaries for the BBC since 2018 including Sunday Morning with Colin Jackson and Suzanne Packer, Sunday Morning with Jonathan Davies and Nigel Owens, The Long Tail: My Coronavirus Recovery and The Idea with Catrin Nye.
