In partnership with
BBC NOW
The BBC National Orchestra of Wales are heading back to Aberystwyth, Bangor and Llandudno this March. Joining BBC NOW will be their award winning Principal Conductor, Ryan Bancroft with a programme of dynamic, ground-breaking and rich music, including the masterful Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5.
Kicking off the action, BBC NOW will perform Tansy Davies’ Monolith: I Extend My Arms. A rock-like strata of canons, simultaneously dense and translucent form the inspiration for this percussive, rhythmical and bubbly work.
Opening with the most magical and expressive of themes, Sibelius’ Violin Concerto bristles with tension and brooding harmonies, paired with exquisitely beautiful melodies and a formidable energy and the orchestra are delighted to welcome the prodigiously talented multi-award winning German-Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang to perform this gem of a concerto.
Tchaikovsky’s music has stood the test of time and is amongst some of the most sought after music in an audiences calendar today, none more so than his fifth symphony. Deeply programmatic, the recurring theme of ‘fate’ is woven throughout this dramatic, luscious and distinctive symphony.
Tickets are available at box offices at the following venues:
- Thursday, March 16 - Aberystwyth Arts Centre
- Friday, March 17 - Prichard-Jones Hall, Bangor
- Sunday, March 19 - Venue Cymru, Llandudno
BBC NOW will also be performing a cosy and peaceful concert at Pontio in Bangor on Saturday, March 18, from 8pm with radio presenting sensation, Sian Eleri. Sian will present a mix of her favourite chill out music with orchestral accompaniment by BBC NOW and lighting effects to enchant and soothe audiences.
All information for all concerts is available on the BBC NOW website at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcnow
