A woman who ran an unlicensed puppy breeding operation from a property at Cross Hands will be sentenced later this year.
Kristina Barton, 28, of Heol Dinefwr, Cross Hands, has admitted three charges under the Animal Welfare Act.
Barton had previously pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates Court to three charges of unlicensed breeding of dogs.
She admitted that between May 25, 2021, and September 12, 2022, three or more breeding bitches were kept at the premises and three or more litters were bred within a 12-month period without a licence.
Barton appeared at Swansea Crown Court today, April 24.
Her case was listed for sentencing. However, this was adjourned at the request of the prosecution for proceeds of crime proceedings to take place and a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
Mr Singh defending said that a basis of plea needed to be looked at.
“While the defendant admits this, it is to a lesser degree than is alleged,” he said.
Judge Her Honour Catherine Richards KC said that she would hear the prosecution’s opening in two week’s time, with the basis of plea to be submitted two weeks after that.
Barton will then be sentenced, and the proceeds of crime application heard, in September.
She was released on unconditional bail until that date and ordered to complete all the relevant stages of the POCA before then.
