A DECADE ago, an Amman Valley cake-maker gave a special creation to the current Queen Consort, Camilla, as a present for the newest member of the royal family.
Zoe Caines-Leonard, of the Little Velvet Cakery Academy in Brynaman, attended the Royal Welsh Show in July 2013 and presented a special cake to Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall.
The cake was for Prince William and Kate, the now Prince and Princess of Wales, to celebrate the birth of their first child, Prince George Alexander Louis, who was born just days before the Royal Welsh Show.
Camilla and her husband – the now King Charles III – were guests of honour at the show.
Zoe told the South Wales Guardian at the time: “After hearing the news of the royal baby on the Monday, we decided that as Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were attending the show on Wednesday, we would make them a special cake in celebration.
“Of course we had to make sure it was blue for a boy.
“We presented the cake to Camilla as she made her way around the food hall where we were exhibiting. She thanked me and said would ensure it got to Prince William and Princess Kate.
“We are thrilled we had the opportunity to present the duchess with one of our cakes and we are sure the proud new parents will enjoy it.”
