THE Urdd Eisteddfod has been praised in parliament.
Carmarthen East & Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards put forward an early day motion in the House of Commons to note the success of the Urdd Eisteddfod which was held in Llandovery over the end of May and start of June.
He notes that the Urdd is the largest youth festival of its kind in Europe and that 15,000 young people competed at the event.
Mr Edwards said: “It was an honour to hold such an iconic event in the constituency and I know the residents and local representatives of Llandovery are really proud of the events success.
“I was particularly pleased to hear that the Urdd had issued over 9,000 free visitor tickets to low-income families, which is really vital during the difficult times we are in.
“I would like to congratulate all that took part and also thank the Urdd staff, volunteers visitors and those who went around decorating ensuring the country was awash of ‘Coch, Gwyn a Gwyrdd’ to welcome the event.”
Cllr Handel Davies, the county councillor for Llandovery, added: “The biggest event ever held in Llandovery has been a wonderful success, blessed with glorious sunshine throughout.
“An unforgettable time when everyone enjoyed themselves so much that our beautifully decorated town is now known as ‘Llanlovely.’”
