THE first Pride parade will take place in a Towy Valley town next month.
Llandeilo will be hosting its first Llandeilo Pride on Saturday, July 8.
Despite the parade being just over a week away, there is already an abundance of Pride flags and a number of window displays to celebrate the occasion.
On July 8, the parade congregation will meet between 12pm and 12.15pm at CK’s car park and will leave there at 12.30pm to parade through Rhosmaen Street to King Street.
Anyone wishing to take part can do so and there will be a diverse group of participants including local businesses, clubs, schools families and pets.
There will be a street party on Market Street at 12.50pm which will officially open Pride in Llandeilo. This will be hosted by drag artist Tina Sparkle.
There will be a number of children’s activities at Eve’s Toy Shop and Hengwrt between 1pm and 4pm before the party moves to the White Horse at 3pm for a performance from Demi Morcom.
It will then move to Diod at 5pm for Lawrence Lewis to perform, and at 6pm, Darren Sax Stephens will perform in Pitchfork and Provisions, with Polly Amorous in the Salutation Inn at 8pm. There will also be an 80s disco and karaoke organised by Davies and Co.
Mayor Christoph Fischer, who is openly gay and the second mayor of the town to be so, said: “It is a weekend not to be missed. The support has been overwhelming, and the committee has worked hard and very efficiently to bring all parts of the community together in support of Llandeilo Pride!
“We are so thankful of you all for putting time and effort into your window displays. We’re putting this event on not just for ourselves but to bring everyone together, a celebration of inclusivity, a free event for all to support also our businesses and to add another event to the festival calendar of town.”
It is a busy weekend for Llandeilo as King Street will be closed for the day on Saturday, July 8 as the classic vintage car show will be returning to Llandeilo and Beyond the Border Storytelling festival will be held in Dinefwr Park.
