AN arts and crafts event will be held in Ammanford in August.
The Chinese in Wales Association is hosting an Ammanford Fun Morning as part of a national project being run by the association.
At the event, there will be workshops for the arts and crafts, including Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, Chinese crafts and tea tasting.
There will be a Chinese painting workshop hosted by Mr Chan and Bonnie will bring fine Chinese tea and craft pieces to treasure.
The association is already running workshops in Swansea and Cardiff and alongside Ammanford, there are plans for activities in Abergavenny and Wrexham.
The workshop in Ammanford is being held in Ammanford Library and the association is also taking the workshops into schools, nursing homes, dementia hubs and wellbeing centres to ensure that those who are deprived or left out are able to enjoy the activities.
Project manager April Kong said: “The response we have from service providers and local citizens is very encouraging, there is certainly a need for more of these art activities within the community to help us to overcome the difficult few years we’ve had.
“We hope the citizens of Ammanford will enjoy what we are bringing to them, and we sincerely hope that it will be sustained.”
The Chinese in Wales Association is arranging the events as part of the Dragon Festival, to use art as a medium to bring people together to celebrate, to encourage public harmony, create meaningful social connections and promote physical and mental wellbeing.
April said: “The Year of the Dragon is a momentous year in the Chinese calendar, and represents nobleness, leadership, strength, honour, health, luck and success. It is interesting to point out that dragons in both Chinese and Welsh culture play a very symbolic role.
“To welcome in the new Chinese Year of the Dragon in 2024, the Chinese in Wales Association hope to create celebratory activities and events throughout Wales within a year-long Dragon Festival programme.”
The Arts Council of Wales has provided funding for the research and development of the Dragon Festival.
The Ammanford Fun Morning will take place at Ammanford Library on Tuesday, August 1 between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Entry is free but booking is advised due to limited availability. To book, call 01792 469919 or 07593 708749.
