IF you are looking for free or low-cost things to do in the Neath Port Talbot Council area during the summer holidays, there are a number of places you can go.
Aberavon Beach has a free Aqua Splash water park, there is a whole range of activities for young people aged 11 and over which includes table tennis, circus skills, spray painting, outdoor games and free food. Full details can be found at NPT Youth Service on social media for dates, times and locations.

Pontardawe Library
- August 1: Board Game Craft (bookable), 2.30pm.
- August 2: Escape Room (ages 7-11. Bookable), 10am – 4pm.
- August 4: Board Games (bookable), 10.30am.

Celtic Leisure is hosting a range of activities at its leisure centres including Pontardawe Leisure Centre, Aberavon Leisure and Fitness Centre, Neath Sports Centre, Neath Leisure Centre and Vale of Neath Leisure Centre. Spaces are limited and booking must be done by calling 08000 434343.
A range of multi-sports activities will be held by the NPT PASS (physical activity and sports service) as part of its ‘in the parks’ programme. Full details can be found by searching NTPass on Facebook.
Neath Port Talbot Council also highlights the forests available for walking and mountain biking, with lots of safe cycle routes.
There is also events at Margam Country Park which has a range of activities including horse riding, fishing, lake boating, archery and a Go Ape treetop adventure activity. Entry is free but car parking is £7.20.
The Margam Activity Centre has peddle karts, stand up paddle boarding, bush craft and kayaking.
Gnoll Estate Country Park is also free entry, with £2.60 for half-day parking or £3.60 for full day. There is a landscaped garden, lakeside and woodland walks, restored formal cascades, a grotto, coarse fishery, ponds, a play area, adventure playground, visitor centre, shop, café and toilet facilities.
Neath Abbey is also free entry, where you can see almost the entire layout of the 13th century abbey.
Cllr Cen Phillips, cabinet member for nature, tourism and wellbeing, said: “Providing opportunities for children, young people and families to get out over the summer holidays can help their wellbeing and promote their emotional and physical health.
“There are plenty of free and reasonably priced things to do throughout the county borough.”
