THE wet and windy weather from Storm Antoni did not stop a Towy Valley agricultural show from taking place on the weekend.
The Llangadog Young Farmers Club Agricultural Show took place on Saturday, August 5 at the Penybont Old Race Course Fields in Llangadog. President was Mr Euros Jones, with Ms Sera Potter as vice president.
There were a number of competitions that took place including horses, cattle, sheep, sheep young handler’s competition, clear round jumping, horticulture, open show jumping and a dog show.
Tomba the Labrador won the dog show for owner Alex Morgan, Eiry Thomas from Cwmgwili’s horse Celton Over the Moon won Supreme Champion in Section B, Alun Davies from Llanfynydd’s sheep won the Torwen and Badger Face section and Alys Morgan’s sheep won the Badger Face section.
Also among the winners were Llangdog’s Cennydd Thomas who won the best young handler in the 11 and under class, the Richards family from Llandyfaelog who triumphed in the group of three sheep class, Llyr Thomas whose sheep won the blue faced and mules sheep section, Manordeilo’s H D Harries whose sheep won the champion prize in the lowland or continental section, Jasmine Emerick from Llanwrda won the champion texels sheep trophy and John Thomas with the supreme champion in the foal class.
Lloyd Davies from Nantgaredig had the champion Welsh Mountain sheep, Llanddeusant’s Megan Harries won the 12-16 class of the Young Handler’s Competition, while the supreme champion sheep came from DA Evans’ Caegwyn Farm and Wyn Jones was the overall winner of the horticulture section.
A committee spokesperson for the show said: “What a day! Another successful show despite the weather. Llangadog Y.F.C Show Committee would like to thank all exhibitors, judges, sponsors, bar staff, stewards and everyone for attending and supporting the show and for their help in preparing the show field and on the day.
“We now look forward to 2024 Show!”
