LLANDOVERY College students have been celebrating excellent A-level and BTEC results this morning – Thursday, August 17.
It is a boost for the college as gradings are at the same or improved levels from 2019, which was the last time grades were given based on exams.
33 per cent of grades handed out were in the A* to A category, with 12 per cent being in the top A* grade. Both are on par with the 2019 figures.
There is an improvement in the number of students who earned A* to C grades, sitting at 77 per cent in 2023, compared to 76 per cent in 2019 and the number of A* to E grades was at 99 per cent in 2023, compared to 96per cent in 2019.
Dominic Findlay, warden at Llandovery College, said: “I am delighted with this year’s results; these are the first fully examined results since the 2019 period, plus they have had the adoption of the Exam Boards drive to returning grade quotas to pre-pandemic levels.
“Our top performing students gained 3 A*s and an A, 2 A*s and 2 As, 2 A*s and 1 A and a host of other students achieved a minimum of 2 As and, as a result, we have seen our A*-A percentage hit 33 per cent.
"This is a fantastic achievement, and we are all so pleased for our leaving Year 13 students.
“The majority of our students have gained their university place of choice, whilst a few that have been downgraded by the Exam Boards they have all secured a top degree placement for September.
“Students have gained places in Russell Group universities, medical schools, some the world of professional sport, whilst others have decided to take up apprenticeship opportunities or delay their entrance to university for a year.
“At such an incredibly important moment for all concerned we wish all our leaving Year 13 students the best of luck in the future as they take their next step along their future career path.”
“Finally, I would like to thank all staff students, and parents for dealing with the past few years of turbulence. Together we have delivered and now they can go forward with confidence in their next step of education or the world of work.
“Good luck.”
