A MAN from the Gwendraeth Valley set out an expletive-filled rebuttal when charges of controlling behaviour and threatening to kill his partner were put to him.

Mark Gillman, 31, appeared via video link at Swansea Crown Court.

He is charged with controlling or coercive control in a relationship, making threats to kill, and damaging property – relating to bedroom furniture.

The coercive control offence is alleged to have been between December 31, 2021, and August 8 of this year. The other charges are dated August 12 this year.

All of the alleged offences involve the same complainant, and are said to have taken place in Ponthenri.

Gillman pleaded not guilty to each of the charges.

“Where are you getting this information?,” he asked after the charges were put to him.

“If I laid a finger on her she would have bruises.

“What the f***?”

Defence barrister David Singh said Gillman “does not accept being in this part of the United Kingdom at the start of the offence date”.

“He says the furniture was his,” said Mr Singh.

“In terms of the threats to kill, he denies that happened.”

Gillman, of Albert Street in Llanelli, again began to deny the offences. Judge Catherine Richards told him he would need to set that out in the defence statement rather than convince her during this hearing.

“I’m not trying to convince anyone. I’m just trying to say what you are saying is complete b*******,” he replied.

A trial will be held on January 30.

Judge Richards told Gillman – who is currently in custody – that a hearing will be held next week.

“Since I’ve been in here and she’s not around me do you know how much more I’ve got in my own f****** head?,” he replied. “I don’t want bail.”
