AMMANFORD’S Wilko store’s closing date has been confirmed for next week.
Administrators PwC have today – Wednesday, September 20 - revealed the latest 111 Wilko store closure dates, with Ammanford’s being set to close on Wednesday, September 27.
Local politian Adam Price, MS for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr has described the closure as 'nothing short of devastaing for the town'.
Adding: “Times are incredibly tough at the moment, and this will no doubt be damaging to our local economy.
“My thoughts are with all those who will be affected by the closure, and to anyone who may need support, please visit my office or send an email to adam.price@senedd.wales.”
Meanwhile, Jonathan Edwards, MP for Carmarthen East & Dinefwr, said: "My main thoughts are with the workforce and I have raised this matter with Government Ministers to ensure the support of the Job Centre plus is available to those who will regrettably be left without jobs. It is also bad news for the local economy in Ammanford with the loss of another retailer from the town.”
The list of closures is the third wave of announcements, with many stores having closed in the last two weeks.
A number of the stores, including Ammanford, have been bought by Pepco where they may be turned into Poundland stores, however, jobs are not guaranteed for those staff who were made redundant after Wilko went into administration, although Pepco has said it will “prioritise” Wilko workers for roles when the shop reopens under the Poundland name.
