AN Ammanford theatre will be open to the public to buy tickets with new opening hours.

The Glowyr Theatre behind the Welfare Hall, adjacent to Wind Street car park, will be open on a Monday to give the public the chance to book tickets in person and explore the lineup for the autumn and winter season.

The 140-seat venue is celebrating its 91st anniversary next month, after opening for the first time on October 1, 1932. It was designed by architect J Owen Parry and is a grade II listed building which was used initially as a miner’s welfare hall.

The building still retains a lot of its original plasterwork, providing a glimpse into the rich history of the venue through its highly decorative look.

Coming up this year will be a spooky treat for families on October 31 with The Midnight Mission and a reimagining of classic tale Dracula’s Guest in October, with a festive feel in December with a radio play version of A Christmas Carol with live foley artists and Ammanford Community Theatre will bring Dick Whittington to life for the Christmas pantomime between December 1-3.

In January, Starquest and Ammanford Youth Theatre will be putting on their Cinderella pantomime between the 5th and 7th.

The Glowyr Theatre is part of the Carmarthenshire County Council run Theatrau Sir Gâr alongside Ffwrnes in Llanelli and the Lyric in Carmarthen.

Tickets for shows at The Glowyr Theatre and for shows at the Ffwrnes and Lyric can be bought at the Glowyr Theatre’s box office in person on Mondays from 10am to 3pm or by visiting Ammanford Library. Tickets can also be bought at www.theatrausirgar.co.uk or by calling 0345 226 3510 between 10am and 3pm, Monday to Saturday.
