A NIGHT of music and thought-provoking stories is coming to Carmarthenshire this month.

We Are What We Overcome is a unique show that follows a man’s journey to good mental health through a very bad idea.

Instead of seeing a psychiatrist in 2018, musician Matt – who had no theatrical experience – chose to perform an unwritten show at the Edinburgh Fringe, weaving tales of how he got to and came back from the brink of suicide, talking publicly about his personal, difficult and eclectic stories, bringing an atmosphere of openness and understanding.

Matt said: “If you’re going to create a space where you allow people to open up, be prepared for honesty, hurt, empathy and overwhelming emotions.”

The show is split into two halves, with original songs performed throughout by the band – which consists of vocalist/guitarist Matt McGuinness, saxophonist Eileen Wright who also plays whistles, and Neil Wright on piano. They are joined by Jo May who handles percussion and perform under Matt McGuinness and The MLC, with indie rock ‘n’ roll and a hint of Motown.

The show is supported by Arts Council England and New Art Exchange and work with Samaritans.
