A SPECIAL concert will be taking place in the Gwendraeth Valley this weekend.
Symphonica Tywi is celebrating its 30th year as an orchestra under the baton of founder Mike Cottam and will be performing a special show in Pontyberem on Saturday.
The programme of music comes under the title of Stars & Lovers and will contain some of the most popular music in the theme.
The drama of human love will be represented by Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to West Side Story and Adagio from Rachmaninov’s great Second Symphony.
The stars and planets will be depicted in John Williams’ theme to Star Wars and Gustav Holst’s Mars, Venus and Jupiter from his The Planets Suite.
Symphonica Tywi continues to grow under Mr Cottam’s leadership with a number of talented instrumentalists and has been a place to nurture the talents of many young Welsh musicians, some of whom have gone on to become very well known both nationally and internationally.
Stars & Lovers by Symphonica Tywi will be performed at Pontyberem’s Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 21 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12, with entry for under 14s being free. Tickets can be bought at the Memorial Hall on www.neuaddpontyberemhall.com, by calling 01269 871075 or by contacting Mike Cottam on mikecottam@hotmail.com or 07876 727906.
