POUNDLAND will be opening in Ammanford this week.
The popular budget chain’s owners Pepco bought 71 former Wilko stores after it was announced that the company went into administration earlier this year and revealed that the stores – which included Ammanford’s – will be turned into Poundland stores, but no dates had been revealed.
The Wilko store closed on Tuesday, September 26, and earlier this month, Poundland lorries were spotted at the former Wilko site at Unit A3, Carregaman Road, Ammanford.
At the time, Pepco were not able to provide an opening date but it has now been revealed that the store will be opening in Ammanford on Saturday, October 28.
The news comes as part of Pepco’s plans to open 75 Poundland stores across the UK by December. This includes relocation of stores, a move into a John Lewis building and the conversion of Wilko stores.
Pepco has said it has offered more than 500 former Wilko employees who were working across the sites that it took over jobs and is continuing to prioritise former Wilko staff for roles in Poundland stores and to visit www.poundlandcareers.co.uk or to follow Poundland on LinkedIn for details on roles and how to apply.
The Ammanford Poundland – like all the new scores – will have extensive grocery, household and general merchandise ranges as well as the Pepco family clothing line.
Austin Cooke, Poundland’s managing director, said: “To open 75 stores in the space of a single quarter is nothing short of a super-human effort from every member of the Poundland team. To each and every one of the I say ‘thank you.’
“But we’re working at this pace because we’re on a mission – ambitious to grow, create jobs and serve new communities by opening shops customers and communities can be proud of.”
The new Poundland will be opening at Unit 3A, Carregaman Road, Ammanford on Saturday, October 28.
