CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council will be supporting the White Ribbon campaign to end violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon is the UK’s leading charity that engages men and boys to end violence against women and girls and the annual White Ribbon Day takes place on Saturday, November 25. Whilst domestic abuse affects both sexes, the majority of incidents are carried out by men on women.
In 2018, the council was awarded White Ribbon UK accredited status and continues to work to tackle violence.
There will be white ribbon flags flying at Ammanford Town Hall, Llanelli Town Hall and County Hall in Carmarthen on November 25, with County Hall being lit up purple in the evening to show support.
Prior to this, the council supported the White Ribbon March in Ammanford on Thursday, November 23 and is working with partners to raise awareness of the campaign across the county, including sports clubs, joint visits with the police to licensed premises, in leisure centres, theatre and libraries.
Cllr Ann Davies, cabinet member for community cohesion, said: “Carmarthenshire County Council is fully supportive of the White Ribbon campaign to end violence against women by men. A range of council services have been working in partnership with various agencies over the years to raise awareness about this issue, with the aim of preventing such violence and signposting victims of domestic abuse to get the help and support they need.
“Every person within our society has a role to play on the issue of violence towards women by men – we must not and cannot tolerate it.”
