A FOOD bank in Ystradgynlais is one of 11 in Powys to have received funding to continue supporting the most at need in the community.
Powys County Council was given £30,199 from the Welsh Government direct food support grant and distributed the funds out to 11 of the county’s food banks.
The funding is there for food banks to buy additional supplies and to help cover running costs as winter approaches.
The food banks that have received a share of the funding are: Ystradgynlais, Brecon, Cwm Tawe (CATCH), Helping Our Homeless (Builth Wells), Knighton, Llandrindod, Llani Pantri, Newtown (Salvation Army), Oswestry & Borders, Rhayader and Welshpool.
Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Powys County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for a fairer Powys, said: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to help our food banks, which are sadly facing a burgeoning demand, by distributing this grant.
“They do a sterling job of supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and if you need their help, please reach out to them.”
