AN outdoor gym has been put into the park in Llandybie in a bid to make fitness accessible for all in the community.
Llandybie Community Council is striving to make sure its 11 parks across the area are maintained and that fitness is accessible for all and made the decision to put the outdoor gym in the Llandybie park to encourage residents to use it as a stop off on a walk or run within their fitness regime, or as a chance to keep fit whilst supervising their children playing in the park.
The gym caters for teens and adults and the council hope that it widens the appeal of the park. There has also been an upgrade to the multi-use games area (MUGA) and a disabled ramp and gate have been put in place to allow wheelchair access to the new picnic area with benches.
There will also be a trampoline area put in place which will be able to be used by all age groups and will be accessible for wheelchair users.
Carey Thomas, chairwoman of Llandybie Community Council, said: “We felt it important as a community council that fitness is inclusive and accessible ‘for all’ in our community, we must realise that for some residents, gym membership is beyond their means financially, so we have provided this opportunity for everyone to at least have the opportunity to gym facilities as part of a healthier lifestyle.”
The developments of the park were paid for using money from the community council’s budget as well as grants from the 106 grant monies administered by Carmarthenshire County Council.
