A SPORTS club in the Gwendraeth Valley will be redeveloped.
Drefach Community Sports Club will be redeveloped after Carmarthenshire County Council approved plans.
The development will include the redevelopment of the existing club, building a storage and changing unit, adding a first-floor extension to the existing clubhouse and improving the associated facilities.
There will also be landscaping works and additional parking.
Drefach Community Sports Club has more than 300 members including 13 junior teams, three senior teams and two female teams and is home to Drefach Cricket Club which has a mixture of male and female players on the home and visiting teams.
The clubhouse serves both the cricket and football clubs but has become inadequate due to the continued growth of the clubs, meaning larger facilities are needed.
The limited changing facilities in the club means that all the teams cannot change ahead of games and the club wishes to provide sufficient facilities to support the sporting teams and would like to engage with the wider community.
The proposed development would take place in three stages. The first stage would be to remove the temporary unit that is on the site, build the storage and changing unit, extend the existing access to provide 36 parking space and carry out landscaping works.
The second phase would include refurbishing the existing clubhouse by enlarging the bar area, removing the existing WC facilities and creating a new entrance.
The third phase would see the first-floor extension of the clubhouse which will include a new bar/cage area, new balcony and multifunction room.
The 36 parking areas will include two disabled bays and three EV charging bays.
On January 15, the council approved the plans with 12 conditions including work must be started within five years of the approval date and be done in line with the approved plans and enhancements. There are also highway safety conditions and surface water conditions. There is also a condition that the premises is only used in line with the purposes of a sports clubhouse and should not be used outside of the hours of 9am and 10pm, Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays.
