AN event to help improve wellbeing in Ystradgynlais will take place in February.
Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board will be hosting the Ystradgynlais Community Wellbeing Event which will see a number of organisations at The Welfare in the town to provide a chance for a chat as well as for residents to learn what support is available to them.
Some of the organisations that will be in attendance include PAVO, Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board, Department for Work and Pensions, Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Freedom Leisure.
Cllr Richard Church, the council’s cabinet member for a safer Powys, said: “Following almost twice the national average of residents self-reporting that their health is bad or very bad, it’s crucial that we host events such as this, to allow residents to have their say, so we can continue to support our communities and provide the correct resources to help improve our resident’s health.”
Mererid Bowley, director of public health at Powys Teaching Health Board, said: “Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your health and also one of the hardest. With the support of others, it becomes so much easier. Come along and meet the team to see how they can help you. Remember, quitting isn’t just for you, but it helps your friends and family as well!”
The event will take place at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais on Thursday, February 8, where anyone can drop in at any time between 10am and 5pm. It is a free event and is also the launch event of a wider project. The project – which will promote the importance of health and wellbeing in the community – will include further events, a wellbeing hub and a wellbeing survey. The survey can be completed at The Welfare during the February 8 event.
