A 55-YEAR-OLD man has avoided prison after assaulting two police officers.
Lawrence McDermott, of Derlwyn Close in Cefneithin, was charged at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court with two offences of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
It was alleged that he assaulted the two officers in Foelgastell on January 6.
The offence was described as a “prolonged assault” against police officers responding to a 999 call.

He pleaded guilty to both offences on January 23, and was back in court to be sentenced on March 19.
McDermott was handed a 12-week sentence, suspended for a year, running concurrently for each offence, and must complete a 90-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement
He must pay each of the officers £100 in compensation, as well as £85 in costs and a £154 surcharge.
