A local pub in Carmarthenshire has won a 2024 National Pub and Bar Award.
The White Hart Thatched Inn & Brewery in Dyfed was named as one out of 94 "county winners" across Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.
On June 26, The White Hart will compete for regional titles at an awards ceremony.
One of the owners, Marcus Coles said: “It feels excellent because we’ve been in this pub for 30 years now and it goes to show the quality that we do. We like to win competitions as it gives the staff something to work to, like a goal.
“We're a traditional pub. It’s a thatched-roof building. We don’t have television screens. We’re an old-fashioned type of pub. We do good food, beer and it’s a pub for the family to enjoy. Anyone who comes here will have a good time.”
The pub also has numerous five-star reviews on Trip Advisor praising the establishment’s roast dinner, great drinks, and huge portions.
One reviewer said: “Called into the White Hart this week with my wife for some lunch and a drink. What a lovely pub thatched roof brewery out the back and children’s play area.
“Sat outside in sunshine and in the beer garden and we enjoyed a cool Madri lager from the tap. Hosts really friendly and hospitable who made us feel welcome.
“The menu is incredible from a roast dinner to every type of pub grub you can enjoy. I had chicken salad which was huge and lovely crusty bread, and my wife had a huge ploughman’s lunch.
“The setting in the front beer garden terrace was relaxing and really comfy large tables and chairs and parasols. Would definitely come back soon with friends and enjoy a lovely setting in a really good pub.”
Another review from France added: "On a recent visit to Wales, we decided to visit the White Hart. We had recently seen it on television, where Grace Dent and Ainsley Harriet had visited and thought we would check it out.
"The pub looks great from the outside with its thatched roof. It did not disappoint inside with its quirky decor.
"The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious. We had the Welsh cawl and lambs’ liver. really good portions and next time we visit we shall choose another dish from the extensive menu."
Other winners of the county award in Wales include Mold Alehouse in Clwyd, The Goose and Cuckoo in Gwent, The Bull’s Head Inn in Gwynedd, The Old House 1147 in Mid Glamorgan, The Sun Hotel in Powys, Hare & Hounds in South Glamorgan and Britannia Inn in West Glamorgan.
