A Carmarthen branch of a food delivery company has been given a King's Award for Enterprise.
Wiltshire Farm Foods's Carmarthen branch bagged the UK's top business award, the King's Award for Sustainable Development 2024, for its unique closed-loop recycling scheme.
The award represents the fourth royal commendation for the ready meal provider, having previously won three Queen's Awards for Enterprise.
The winning project involves customers returning food trays to drivers for recycling.
Notably, every returned tray is repurposed, a model that has marked an unprecedented industrial initiative.
To date, the system has recycled around 25 million trays, a feat that played a significant role in securing this prestigious win.
Joe Llewelyn, the Carmarthen branch manager, expressed the team's pride in receiving the award.
He said: "On behalf of the whole team, we are so proud to be recognised with a King’s Awards for our closed-loop recycling tray scheme.
"This is all down to the tireless work from our drivers and their relationships with our customers – getting them involved in doing their bit for the environment has been a real motivator."
The award also acknowledged parent company apetito's environmental dedication, valuing their commitment to sustainability, aiming for Net Zero by 2040 through ambitious carbon reduction strategies.
