A local author is set to release a horror book which is available to pre-order from Waterstones and Amazon.
Alex J. Thomas is the creator of ‘At Night They Whisper’, a book inspired by Stephen King and William Friedkin, featuring eight short stories and themes such as crime, thriller, and mystery.
This includes ‘Choking Monopoly’ which delves into warped family ties, ‘The Forty-Stone Finding’ where hope and freedom perish and ‘She’s Still With Us’ which focuses on old-school detective fiction.
He said: “Horror is great, but it only really works if there’s happiness at the end. And if not happiness, then at least hope.
“Some of the most positive emotions and feelings we’ll experience in life come after periods of adversity. That’s what At Night They Whisper is about.
“The bad almost completely outweighs the good, but just a shimmer of light is all that’s needed to turn it on its head. I try to convey that message in the final lines of the book.
“Some of my most creative and bizarre ideas when I was younger came at night - so I made the title as a little reference to how my imagination worked as a kid.”
The 27-year-old was born in Carmarthenshire and previously wrote a couple of dissertations when working towards his bachelor and master degrees.
Alex continued: “This was my first creative piece. I always wanted to publish something before I was 30. I’m happy to represent Carmarthenshire.
"I’m one of the few authors from the area and I would like to publish a book in Welsh in the future.”
However, Alex plans to become a psychology teacher and share his passion for the subject.
“In one of my first courses I started learning about horror psychology. I learned about the difference between horror film psychology and normal psychology. I’ve worked in schools and done a variety of jobs before writing my book.”
Alex has also worked within mental health services where he helped people tackle drug and alcohol addictions.
‘At Night They Whisper’ will be published by Austin Macauley Publishers and is available in paperback, Kindle, and eBook.
