Carmarthenshire County Council has launched two new initiatives.
With the help of the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the council unveiled Bws Bach y Wlad and Hwb Bach y Wlad, aimed to support and uplift the community of North Carmarthenshire.
Bws Bach y Wlad, the novel bus service, addresses the challenges of isolation and limited access to necessary services for those living in rural areas.
The service is operational five days a week for a nine-month pilot period.
Bws Bach y Wlad offers an affordable transportation solution for everyone, with discounted rates specifically for young people, granting them wider access to education, employment, and leisure activities. There is also concessionary travel.
On the same vein, the council introduced Hwb Bach y Wlad, a comprehensive support hub designed to address various concerns of those living in rural areas.
The new hub provides support and guidance on a number of issues such as cost of living, waste and recycling, consumer and business affairs, and housing.
With convenient locations available in Llanelli, Carmarthen, and Ammanford, residents can access services online, over the phone or in-person.
Hwb Bach y Wlad is an extension of the council's already established Hwb customer services, with a specialist team of advisors offering financial and wellbeing support across the 10 rural towns of Carmarthenshire.
The Hwb advisors have already proven crucial in servicing the community by assisting more than 6,000 customers, visiting various sites including community halls, food banks, leisure centres and farmer’s markets.
Both initiatives, significantly bolstered by the financial backing from UKSPF, highlight the council's commitment towards the wellbeing of its community, aiming to ensure that every resident in Carmarthenshire has access to vital resources and opportunities for prosperity.
Cllr Edward Thomas, Carmarthenshire County Council’s cabinet member for transport, waste, and infrastructure services said: "Carmarthenshire County Council remains dedicated to enhancing the lives of all residents, and these initiatives underscore our unwavering commitment to fostering thriving and inclusive communities in rural Carmarthenshire.
"By providing essential support services and bridging the gap between remote areas and vital resources, we are empowering individuals to thrive and fostering inclusive communities in rural Carmarthenshire."
Residents seeking more information about the services can find the timetable for Bws Bach y Wlad and Hwb Bach y Wlad at their respective online resources.
