Carmarthenshire County Council is calling for new trainees to join its Care Academi.

The Academi, open to anyone over 18, offers training, support and guidance, alongside the opportunity for successful applicants to earn while they learn and carve out a rewarding career path in social work or social care.

12 individuals have participated since the scheme’s inception in 2022, with some currently expanding their skills within the programme.

Participants gain first-hand experience in the field, fulfilling their level two health and social care (adults) qualification, some are progressing well into level three, while others have successfully transitioned to employment within the sector or advanced to the social work programme.

The programme provides a blend of practical training and education, offering a comprehensive insight into the sector and a wide variety of opportunities, including interaction with other professionals from doctors to physiotherapists.

Successful applicants have the potential to achieve a degree in social work or a level five management qualification.

There are also opportunities for those not wishing to complete a degree to explore various roles within the sector.

Additionally, successful applicants receive support to improve their Welsh language skills and are encouraged to utilise their language abilities within the workspace.

Furthermore, the Academi offers 10 free driving lessons to help successful applicants get on the road.

A minimum of two GCSEs (grade A* - D) in English, Welsh, or Maths, or equivalent, is required.

Online information sessions are scheduled to discuss further details about the Care Academi.
