There will be 12 new housing developments started in Carmarthenshire this year according to the council.

Carmarthenshire County Council has announced that it will continue its commitment to extending the number of affordable homes across the county.

These new builds are set to begin this year in locations including Carmarthen, Llanddarog, Llandovery, Llanelli and Llansteffan.

Alongside these, 14 additional developments are planned, aiming to bring 435 new council-owned properties over the next three years.

These will be in Alltwallis, Ammanford, Gorslas, Kidwelly, Llangadog, Llangennech, Llanllwni, Meidrim and Pendine.

The new homes will offer energy-efficient accommodation for single individuals, families, and residents in need of specialist living spaces.

In the past two years, 147 new council-owned homes have been completed, offering a range of accommodation types from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.

All of these properties come with modern kitchens and bathrooms, as well as high insulation levels to minimise heat loss.

Solar panels and electric vehicle charging points are also standard across all the new builds, as part of the council's efforts to lower energy bills for residents and work towards its net zero carbon targets.

Councillor Linda Davies Evans, cabinet member for homes said: "Carmarthenshire County Council continues to increase the provision of social housing and affordable homes throughout the county.

"We are progressing well with our commitment to support the delivery of over 2,000 affordable homes throughout the county by 2027, with a focus on providing homes for small and large families, older people, single people, couples and households with specialist needs."

In addition to these new developments, 324 properties have been brought into council house stock through the purchase of homes from the open market.

Moreover, 162 properties have also been developed for low-cost home ownership via the section 106 provisions in the planning system aiming to aid Carmarthenshire residents to purchase their own homes.

These efforts contribute to the council's commitment to facilitate the delivery of 2,000 new homes in the coming five years, thus fulfilling its promise to provide quality, affordable housing and uphold its green energy agenda.
