Families of children with sight loss in the Kidwelly area are being encouraged to sign up for a programme of fun and supportive group sessions.

The gatherings are part of Guide Dogs My Time to Play and led by qualified habilitation specialists.

Sessions will take place every other Tuesday from 11am to 1pm at Canolfan John Burns, Parc House, Carmarthen Road, Kidwelly SA17 5AB.

The events are completely free and offer activities to promote growth of skills and stimulate non-visual senses.

Spearheaded by a sensory story, each session includes songs, movement and correlated practices.

Branwen Jones, operations nanager for Guide Dogs Cymru, said: "The programme helps children with sight loss to develop the practical skills and confidence to explore their world, all through the power of play."

Further shedding light on who leads the courses, she explained: "Habilitation Specialists understand the importance of early intervention for babies and young children with a vision impairment."

Ms Jones added that the programme is designed to give children "the best possible start in life."

Hence, the sessions are structured and provide encouragement to both children and their families through activities like songs, arts and crafts, yoga, and music.

The programme includes seven in-person sessions, including an assessment with a habilitation specialist.

This assessment is particularly helpful for those children transitioning towards nursery or pre-school.

The sessions available extend beyond on-site, catering for families who might find travelling tedious.

This is achievable with free online resources comprising of educational information and advice, a nursery rhyme songbook for fun, and activity sheets.

Parents can sign their children up through emailing children@guidedogs.org.uk or calling 0800 781 1444.

For more details, information is readily accessible at www.guidedogs.org.uk/mttp.

Guide Dogs is reportedly also looking to organise sessions in other areas depending on demand.
