A Pontarddulais teacher is shortlisted for a Welsh teaching award.
Georgi Bennett, a respected figure at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, is nominated for the Betty Campbell (MBE) Award.
27 education professionals have made it to the finals of the sixth annual Professional Teaching Awards Cymru, which honours the impressive education workforce across Wales.
A first this year, the awards have extended to include the college workforce along with schools.
For her commendable work promoting the contributions and perspectives of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, Mrs Bennett received her nomination.
Educators from a broad spectrum of disciplines make up the finalists, indicative of the range of talent found within Wales's educational framework.
Notably, this year's awards include the newly introduced ‘Learners’ Engagement in School/College’ category.
Welsh Government cabinet secretary for education, Lynne Neagle, revealed the finalists.
She praised the entrants, declaring the competition to be at an "outstanding level", a testament to the inspirational education professionals working tirelessly across Wales.
Lynne Neagle said: "We received the highest number of nominations to date and, as ever, there was an outstanding level of competition, highlighting the inspiring education professionals we have in Wales."
She also explained the rationale behind the creation of the ‘Learners’ Engagement in School/College’ award and expressed her anticipation towards celebrating the committed educators enhancing the learning experience for their students.
Mrs Neagle followed by saying: "This year we wanted to recognise the good work happening in Wales to improve learner engagement and attendance.
"While many of the concerns around the wellbeing of young people pre-date the COVID-19 pandemic, it has introduced more complexities.
"The new award for ‘Learners’ Engagement in School/College’ is a recognition of the amazing teams and individuals that are working hard to put extra support in place.
"I look forward to celebrating these incredibly motivated individuals who are so committed to getting the best out of their learners."
These awards offer Welsh teachers the opportunity to be appreciated for their vital roles and exceptional dedication to their occupation and students.
