On Sunday, July 14, one of Wales’ best known known instrumental virtuosi of all time, Catrin Finch is set to perform alongside Irish violinist Aoife Ni Bhriain to create a celebration of musical synergy.

On Monday, the Treske Quartet will play music by Stravinsky, British composer Caroline Shaw String Quartet No.10 in Eb major (the ‘Harp’) by Beethoven.

The instruments used for their performance have all been made from the same tree and their music has been described as a ‘meticulously blended something’ which will sound better in the superb acoustic of St Teilo’s Church.

Then, on Tuesday, the festival will see, one of Britain’s most sought-after chamber groups, the Aquinas Piano Trio perform Eb Op.1 No.1 and Brahms’s Trio No. 2 in C, together with Frank Martin’s delightful Trio on Irish Folk Themes.

Aquinas Piano Trio are the first piano-playing group of three to appear at the festival, but Shaham Erez Wallfisch Trio gave a memorable recital for the Friends of the Festival, back in February of this year.

The Aquinas Trio have previously played at Wigmore Hall in 2015 and Musical Opinion commented “This sold-out concert hall was in awe, ecstatic with joy at the final cadence.”

The Wednesday will present one of the country’s leading singers in Jess Dandy with pianist Ceri Owen who specialises in song accompaniment.

Jess Dandy has already reaped critical acclaim for her instrument of velvety, plangent timbre, and for her remarkable artistic immediacy and was likened by the ‘Times’ to Kathleen Ferrier.

All concerts will happen at St Teilo’s Church apart from the Finch and Ni Bhriain recital at National Trusts Newton House.
