Four out of five Costa’s in Carmarthenshire have a food hygiene rating of five.
By law, each business needs to go through an assessment by the local authority and get graded from one to five.
Five means food hygiene is excellent while zero means urgent improvement is required.
During inspection, assessors focus on three main elements of food hygiene such as:
Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: This includes adequate ventilation to ensure proper food hygiene, hand washing facilities, pest control and an appropriate layout.
Hygienic food handling: Making sure that food is stored, cooled, reheated, cooked and prepared in a hygienic way.
Management of food safety: Ensuring food is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety and confidence from the food safety officer that standards will be upkept.
