A FATHER-OF-TWO was found to have almost 2,000 “horrific” and “sickening” indecent images and videos of children on his computers.
George Haywood was charged with three offences of making indecent images of children between March 2008 and October 2022, as well as possessing extreme pornography.
Police attended Haywood’s home near Pontardawe at 7.10am on October 27, 2022, after receiving information that indecent images of children had been uploaded from that address, prosecutor Regan Walters said.
When officers spoke with him, he gave them his phone and its PIN code. The police also seized “a number of devices”.

Haywood said he “utilised file sharing for pornography”, Mr Walters said. The defendant said this “on occasions” meant there were indecent images included within those files.
He described the images as “horrific”, but said he didn’t report them as he didn’t want to be associated with viewing those kind of images.
“The defendant stated he had never masturbated to indecent images of children,” Mr Walters said.
Haywood later described them as “sickening”, but said he “watched them for shock value”.
The defendant then admitted he “got a small sense of sexual gratification” from the images.
In total, Haywood had 71 Category A images – the most serious type, 37 Category B images, 1,865 Category C images, and three extreme pornographic images which depicted bestiality.
Haywood, 68, of Neath Road in Rhos, pleaded guilty to all charges.
Mr Davies, in mitigation, said the defendant had no previous convictions.
“The defendant does not present a direct risk of harm to children,” he said.
He added that Haywood had “turned his life around since his arrest”.
Addressing the defendant, Judge Geraint Walters said: “Whatever possessed you to enter this murky world only you can explain.
“Why people out there seem to think they are going to get away with it I have no idea.
“There’s a message for people still out there doing it. You might be next.
“The public have no time for offending of this sort, or indeed sympathy.
“In this particular case, it’s worth reminding people like you that those pictures are not computer generated, they are in fact real children being abused by sick adults.
“And I’m addressing a father-of-two. Sometimes the mind boggles. Your children have grown up and I expect have never encountered anything like this. Somebody else’s children have, and have been viewed by people like you.”
Judge Walters sentenced Haywood to 12 months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to complete 40 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay £500 in costs.
The defendant must register as a sex offender for 10 years, and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
