A local community hall will reopen after water damage caused it to close almost two years ago.
This Tuesday (August 6) from 10am to 2pm, Bro Ryan Hall in Glanamman will celebrate it’s reopening with an event for residents.
Age Cymru Dyfed (ACD) has helped put the event together and charities such as Shadows and Adferiad are also set to attend.
Cllr Emyr Rees said: “It’s mega important for the hall to be reopening. It’s been a central hub for the nearby estate. It previously hosted a Golden Jubilee Party.
“For a while people in the area have had nowhere to socialise. Since the COVID pandemic, things have worn down. However, it’s important to bring life back to the community.”
Emyr has recently visited the hall and was impressed with how the venue has changed for the better.
He continued: “Before it was all damp, so it was lovely to see it all cleaned up again and the electricity working. It’s a fresh, clean and a happy place again.”
The reopening will provide an opportunity for residents to socialise while receiving help with any of their health problems.
On his Facebook page, Emyr posted: “As well as being a chance for residents to socialise…
“Age Cymru Dyfed (ACD) will be there with the information and advice team to do benefit checks etc. ACD veteran team will be there. ACD digital team with VR headset will be there.
“Adferiad will be there to do basic blood pressure and cholesterol tests. Oakhouse foods will be there with a free dessert testing session.
“The Lord lieutenant of Carmarthenshire will also be making an appearance.”
Age Cymru Dyfed confirmed the address of the event as Bro Ryan Housing Complex, Grenig Road, Glanamnan, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, SA18 1JD.
They added: “Our team will be there to offer benefit advice and support, veteran project information and VR experience.
“With partner agencies there to provide information on their services, including free refreshments.”
Meanwhile, Shadows will offer mental health advice and another local charity will help residents with their bills, ensuring they are paying the correct amount each month.
A water leak forced the hall to close in December 2022 and it took 18 months before the venue was fully repaired.
The damage was caused by a burst pipe, and this resulted in a large hole in the ceiling.
