A PROLIFIC shoplifter will be sentenced later this month after stealing alcohol, perfume, hair straighteners, and a barbecue.

David Nicklin, 34, of High Street in Ammanford, has been charged with eight offences of shoplifting – all from shops in Ammanford.

He was accused of stealing £49.50 of alcohol from Iceland on February 22, “various items” from Boots on March 9, hair straighteners worth £100 from Boots, and three bottles of perfume worth a total of £53 from Allied Pharmacy.

Nicklin was also charged with stealing a barbecue from Lidl on May 28, two bottles of spirits from Tesco on June 17, and perfume from Boots on July 1.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to bail on May 3, for which he was fined £60 at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on May 16.

Nicklin had been charged with another offence of shoplifting, relating to two bottles of perfume worth £130 from Boots in Ammanford on March 26, however this was dismissed.

After appearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on July 3, Nicklin’s case was sent to Swansea Crown Court and he was remanded in to custody.

Harry Dickens, appearing for Nicklin, described the defendant’s offending as “what appears to be a spree over a number of months”.

“He fell in to drink. A lot of the items stolen are alcohol.” Mr Dickens said, adding that the defendant would both drink and sell the alcohol he stole, along with selling the other items so he could buy more booze.

Judge Huw Rees ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Nicklin was remanded back in to custody, and will return to court to be sentenced on August 29.
