A local family business won Regional Wholesaler of the Year at the Grocer Gold awards.

Castell Howell Foods, based in Cross Hands, was recognised for its stellar performance across the year, growing sales, increasing profits and strategically investing in future proofing the business.

The business received the award at a sold-out Royal Albert Hall, presented by Myleene Klass in front of over 1000 attendees.

Castell Howell, managing director, Matt Lewis said: “To say we are over the moon is an understatement. To be shortlisted against such incredible businesses was such an honour. But to be named as winners has just blown us all away.

“We pride ourselves on always delivering the best possible products, prices and service, while also keeping a close eye on what customers are likely to want or need in the future, and to see this recognised in such a high-profile way is testament to the whole team’s dedication.”

The Grocer Gold awards are held annually to celebrate the great food and drink on offer across the UK with grocery giants such as Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Asda and Waitrose all competing for trophies.

In the last twelve months, Castell Howell has added 54 new vehicles, introduced new product lines and suppliers and invested in its sale force.

The business has four satellite depots Avonmouth, Porthmadog, Chirk and Merthyr Tydfil, and a cash and carry in Carmarthen.

Over the past 35 years, the business has become Wales’ leading independent food service wholesaler by servicing thousands of customers across the country.

Furthermore, Castell Howell supports its 600 colleagues and the local communities it serves.
