LOCALS are angry the grass in the Amman Valley with harmful weeds has been ‘neglected’ by the council.
The grass was reportedly scheduled to be cut in early July, but that didn’t happen, and is said to be a danger to small children, with reports of harmful weeds in the area such as hogweed.
This comes after the council reportedly used their budget to tidy other areas around Carmarthenshire instead of the Amman Valley.
Councillor Kevin Madge said: “I know there’s cutbacks for local government. But my criticism is they have a budget for grass cutting. So why is the Amman Valley left out?
“The grass is five feet tall in some areas. We’re trying to attract tourists, but we will put them off when they see the state of the grass. They only put weed killer in the area at the end of July.
“I’ve been here 46 years and that is the worst I’ve seen it. Now we must wait another three weeks before the grass is cut. I am critical of the Amman Valley being neglected. It looks appalling and it’s not good enough.”
However, Carmarthenshire County Council have reassured locals they will resolve the problem.
Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure Services - Cllr Edward Thomas said: “Our annual programme of highway verge mowing had been running a little behind schedule primarily in the south and east of the county in Glanamman and Llanelli areas due to resource issues with our contractor.
“To address this, we’ve brought in additional resources to bring our programme back on track.
“If there are any specific areas of concern to local residents, then we would request that these are reported to the council via our Contact Centre on 01267 234567 or online so that we can arrange for our maintenance teams to inspect the areas concerned and re-direct our contractors if necessary.”
