A new restaurant will be coming to Carmarthenshire, with a menu inspired by Welsh dishes.

The Welsh House, known for its passion for Welsh food, is set to open a venue at St Catherine’s Walk in Carmarthen by the end of October.

The independent regional company already owns successful restaurants and bars in Cardiff, Neath, and Swansea.

The new restaurant will occupy the town's former Frankie & Benny’s site.

Plans are in place to transform the space into a welcoming environment, complete with a sustainable rooftop garden.

Sam Jones, the company’s Welsh cultural and language ambassador, said: "We are so excited to open our venue here in Caerfyrddin.

"It is a privilege to share our brand and represent the best of Welsh hospitality in the oldest town in Wales.

"Our menu is inspired by traditional Welsh dishes.

"We use locally sourced produce of the highest quality to create dishes that are delicious, honest and that are prepared correctly."

The Welsh House is known for its close partnerships with Welsh suppliers.

Guests can expect to enjoy Carmarthen Ham, cheese from Caws Cenarth, and Mario’s Ice Cream, all produced in Carmarthenshire.

The drinks menu will feature Welsh beers and spirits, including Katherine Jenkins’ award-winning Cygnet Gin and Alun Wyn Jones’ Mimosa Rwm.

Popular broadcaster and opera singer Wynne Evans, who will star in the BBC’s new series of Strictly Come Dancing, supports the new venue.

He said: "It is so great to hear that The Welsh House is coming to my hometown of Carmarthen.

"I am a regular visitor to their venue in Cardiff and I love how they are committed to local producers.

"I wish the team the very best and look forward to visiting soon."

Carmarthenshire County Council leader Darren Price said: "This is good news for the town.

"It means more jobs for local people, and it is a boost for our tourism and hospitality sector, which is a major contributor to the local economy."
