A DRUNK and dangerous driver is wanted after failing to show up to court.

Adam Rees, 23, of Maes Lliedi in Llanelli, was due to be sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday, August 21.

Rees had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, drink driving, making off without paying for fuel, and driving without insurance.

It was alleged that Rees was driving a Volkswagen Polo dangerously on Carmarthen Road in Cross Hands and the surrounding areas on July 17.

It was found that he was disqualified from driving at the time, which meant he also had no insurance.

He had also made off from a petrol station in Gorslas without paying for the £40.05 of fuel.

When breathalysed, Rees recorded having 54 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He admitted the offences at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on July 19.

“The defendant is not present,” defence counsel Jon Tarrant told a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court.

Mr Tarrant said Rees had contacted his solicitors on Tuesday to say he had Covid, but did not respond when asked to provide evidence.

“He is currently incommunicado this morning,” Mr Tarrant said,

“There is no medical evidence of his indisposition,” Judge Huw Rees said. He issued a bench warrant for Rees’ arrest.
