A MAN has been acquitted of driving a van at his now ex-partner, but is still set to stand trial accused of coercive control.

Dylan Daniels, 29, of Brynqwili Road in Hendy, was set to face a trial at Swansea Crown Court on August 21 charged with four offences all against his partner at the time.

Daniels had previously denied strangling the woman on February 11, 2023, as well as an offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on that same date.

The defendant had also been accused of dangerous driving, relating to allegations that on April 2 last year he drove a Renault Kangoo van at the woman in the Cwmbwrla area of Swansea, stopping just in front of her.

On the day of trial, Daniels had a charge of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship between February 10 and April 3 last year put to him.

It was alleged that Daniels caused the woman to fear violence would be used against her after she was assaulted on February 11 and April 2.

Daniels pleaded not guilty.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed it would no longer be proceeding with the dangerous driving or assault occasioning actual bodily harm offences and offered no evidence on these charges. Judge Geraint Walters entered formal not guilty verdicts.

The prosecution confirmed that a trial would be sought on the coercive control and the strangulation charges.

Judge Walters adjourned the case and asked the prosecution to set out what their case would be ahead of a further hearing.

Daniels was granted bail, and the case was adjourned until September 6.
