Many students from schools across Carmarthenshire are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results today (Thursday, August 22).

The results show that 66.9% of all entries were awarded an A* to C grade with 20.2% of entries achieving an A* to A grade.

This comes after two years of hard work from learners, teachers and support staff.

Pupils at Ammanford's Ysgol Dyffryn Aman were congratulated for their results.

Head teacher James Durbridge said: "At Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, we would like to congratulate our students on their GCSE achievements. Their results are a testament to their hard work and commitment, especially given the challenges they have faced over the past few years. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff and supportive parents and guardians, whose combined efforts have been crucial in helping our students reach their full potential. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i chi i gyd ar eich llwyddiannau haeddiannol a phob hwyl i’r dyfodol."

Cabinet Member for Education and Welsh Language said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of our young people that are receiving their GCSE results today. I am very proud of you, and you are a credit to us all in Carmarthenshire.” 

“On behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council, I must also thank the teachers, support staff, families and friends for your support and commitment to our learners; their success is a reflection of your hard work.”

Carmarthenshire County Council are proud of the learners and reiterated the work done by everyone in the community to attain such results.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Chief Executive, Wendy Walters and Director of Education and Children’s Services, Gareth Morgans added: “We are grateful to their teachers, support staff, families and their friends for their hard work over the last two years. Excellent work by all.”

He said: “I got an A* in Science double award, an A in Welsh, A* in Maths higher, A in Numeracy, B in Computer Science, A in Business, A in P.E, A in English and a C in Spanish.

“I’m really happy with my results and I’m going to college now and I’m hoping to study A Level Biology, Maths and P.E.”

Meanwhile, schools in the local area who received GCSE results included Cwmtawe School in Pontardawe and Ysgol Gymraeg in Ystalyfera.
