Carmarthenshire County Council is urging the public to visit its play parks throughout the county.

The Sustainable Communities SPF project has worked with communities across Carmarthenshire to enhance and redevelop play areas using funding from the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

One such project is the new play area in Llanboidy. After extensive community consultation, it was agreed that a new play park was of utmost importance to the village.

With support from residents with experience in the field, an application was made to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Community support was significant, with residents agreeing to install the equipment themselves.

This reduced costs and increased local ownership.

Throughout the installation process, residents helped lay grass mats, cut grass, and install the play equipment.

Now that the work is finished, the park is open to the public.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, culture, leisure and tourism, Councillor Hazel Evans, said: "Funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has allowed the council to make much-needed changes in our county.

"Working closely with our communities is vital to this work, listening to what local people want is key to making successful improvements, commitment and dedication demonstrated by communities have been commendable, creating wonderful new opportunities for children to enjoy the freedom of play."

Other similar projects include improvements to the Pontyates play area and the Llangunnor play park, the construction of the Gate & District Hall multi-use games area, the development of Trimsaran Leisure Centre as a community recreation area, and the new children’s play area near Llwynhendy Library.

The council also has plans for improvements to be made by Llanelli Town Council at Penyfan Park, and Penygaer Playing Fields and Crown Park.

These projects will provide much-needed upgrades to the play areas with the installation of new play equipment.
