SUNDAY saw 2,000 rubber ducks take to the water for the Great Llandovery Duck Race.
The event, organised by the Llandovery Rotary Club, saw the ducks released from the bucket of a large telehandler upstream of the Swan Bridge, before they negotiated their way along the river and crossed the finish line around 400 metres downstream.
The first ten ducks to cross the line earned their sponsors a prize, with the top finisher (duck 1551) winning £750 for Sharon Moffat.
The annual event raises money for worthy causes and sees a whole host of duck-related activities, including a human duck machine, plastic duck throwing, duck hooking, and face painting – with food and drink also on offer.
Despite it being perfect weather for ducks and less so for people, a large crowd gathered in heavy rain on Swan Bridge and the banks of the River Bran to watch the spectacle.
The Llandovery Rotary Club are a group of volunteers of all ages from the local community who fundraise and support local good causes. It has raised and donated more than £58,000 in the last five years.
