THESE five people have had their cases heard in courts across Wales and England.

The defendants were charged with offences including drug-driving, assaulting a police officer, speeding, and using a mobile phone at the wheel.

Their cases were heard in Bath, Wycombe, Merthyr Tydfil, and Newport.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

MORGAN BROCK, 22, of Clos Maes Rhedyn in Gorslas, was driving whilst high on cocaine.

Brock was driving a BMW at the Bedwas House Industrial Estate in Bedwas on December 31. When tested, he was alleged to have recorded having 11 micrograms of cocaine per litre (µg/L) of blood.

The legal limit – to exclude accidental exposure – is 10µg/L.

Brock denied drug-driving, but was found guilty at Newport Magistrates’ Court on August 6.

He was fined £750, and was ordered to pay £650 in costs and a £300 surcharge. Brock was also banned from driving for 12 months.

LAZLO LANDEK, 34, of Arfryn in Upper Brynamman, attacked a police officer in Brecon.

Landek was charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker relating to an incident on July 22.

He pleaded guilty, and on August 9 at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court was ordered to pay £150 in compensation.

Landek was also fined £300, and must pay £85 in costs and a £120 surcharge.

SHAUN MAIDEN, 27, of Coedmawr in Pont-Henri, was caught speeding on the M5.

Maiden was driving a Ford Mondeo at 58mph on the northbound M5 at junction 16 in south Gloucestershire – where a temporary 50mph limit was in place – on December 4.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure, and had three points put on his licence at Bath Magistrates’ Court on July 2.

Maiden was also fined £72 and must pay a surcharge of £28.

PAUL JOHNSON, 52, of Gilfach Y Gog in Penygroes, has been banned from driving after being caught using his phone at the wheel.

Johnson was alleged to have used a handheld mobile phone on the M4 at junction 11 for Reading on August 3 last year.

He pleaded guilty on May 7, and was ordered to pay £262 in a fine, costs and a surcharge at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on July 16.

Johnson had six points added to his licence, and was disqualified from driving for six months.

JONATHAN BEVAN, 32, of Clwyd Road in Gwaun Cae Gurwen, was caught speeding in a 30mph limit.

Bevan was driving a Seat Ateca on the A361 Fore Street in Othery, Somerset, at 38mph on December 8.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure, and was fined £198 at Bath Magistrates’ Court on July 9.

 Bevan must pay £90 in costs and a £79 surcharge, and had three points put on his licence.
