Several businesses have ensured a popular Christmas festival will happen this year by helping to fund the event.
The Festival of Senses in Llandeilo is now set to go ahead from November 15 to November 17 despite initially being cancelled due to a lack of financial resources.
This comes after local business woman Kerry Lewis launched a rescue effort, which resulted in Castell Howell, Cymru Recycling, Ammanford Recycling and Alan Davies Electrical all making up for the shortage in funds.
Vice chair of the festival, Christoph Fischer said: “We are over the moon and so grateful for the generous donations and to all individuals who reassured us.
“Despite the big footfall each year and the popularity of our event, appeals for help didn’t bring the manpower or funds we needed. We’re so happy that Kerri succeeded where we couldn’t and joined our team. Just what we needed.”
After it was announced the festival would be cancelled, numerous residents expressed their disappointment on social media.
Festival chair Holly Dwyer added: “We are shocked and stunned at the response we had over the announced cancellation and at the number of people willing to help and save it.”
The Festival of Senses has been around for 17 years and brings over 11,000 people to Llandeilo each year.
The opening day is on a Friday night which features the switching on of the Christmas tree and a procession of children meeting Santa on King Street.
Over three days visitors also have the chance to go to Santa’s Grotto, use Park and Ride to come into town, check out Llandeilo’s bespoke shops, enjoy food and drink from various stalls and listen to the entertainment on stage and in pubs and cafes.
Local artist Kate Glanville said: “It is such a lovely community event. I would have hated not to have it this year.”
