Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire actors will be on screen in a horror film which premieres in Wales on Saturday.

Carmarthen is hosting the Wales premiere of the chilling new film "Scopophobia", at the Lyric Theatre this Saturday, September 7, at 7.30pm.

"Scopophobia" follows a group of friends who face an unseen threat upon returning to a steel mill to reclaim stolen money, and explores the psychological horror of being watched.

Carmarthen’s own Aled Owen and Tom Rawding, from Portsmouth, are the producers behind this intriguing story, which is being brought to life under the umbrella of their production company, Melyn Pictures Ltd.

The movie boasts of a wholly Welsh cast including Camarthen's Bethany Williams-Potter, Ioan Hefin, Christine Kempell and Lisa Marged and Ellen Jane-Thomas from Tenby.

The premiere promises to be a homecoming celebration of the talent and spirit that fuelled the creation of this film.

Mr Owen, the director, writer, and co-producer of "Scopophobia," said: "As a Carmarthen boy, born and raised, it fills me with pride that the Carmarthenshire County Council was so understanding of our attempts at creating an opportunity for ourselves as young filmmakers.

"Filmmaking feels like an impossible task at the best of times, so the council's willingness to collaborate was a godsend for us and our limited resources."

Carmarthenshire County Council said it backs film productions that enhance the community and its economy.

The council has considerable expertise in supporting such projects, having provided assistance for 62 filming requests this year so far.

In line with the film’s release, there will be a performance by Carmarthen musician GG Fearn at Cwrw on King Street, where songs from the film can be enjoyed.

Hazel Evans, cabinet member for regeneration, leisure, culture & tourism, said: "I am thrilled to see ‘Scopophobia’ make its debut in Carmarthen.

"This film not only showcases the incredible talent of our local filmmakers but also highlights the vibrant cultural landscape of our community.

"Supporting such creative endeavours aligns with our commitment to fostering local arts and tourism, and we are proud to have played a role in bringing this exciting project to fruition."

The public is invited to the premiere at the Lyric Theatre on Saturday, September 7. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the premiere are available on the Theatrau Sir Gar website.
